Java For Mac OS X 10.5 Update 4
Following the installation of Java for Mac OS X 10.5 Update 4,
you may have problems running Java Web Start applications such as the SSC 4D Orbit Viewer and
the ISTP CDF Skeleton
Editor.
Typical symptoms: Selecting the link to start a Java Web Start
application in Safari or Firefox results in the display of a JNLP XML file in:
- TextEdit
- another editor application
- an error message is displayed
- or nothing at all happens
If you experience problems with Java Web Start application after this
update, follow the steps below:
- Exit all browsers and Java applications
- Open
/System/Library/CoreServices in the finder to
force any
applications in CoreServices (particularly Java Web Start) which are
not registered in the launch services database to be added.
- Open
/Applications/Utilities/Java Preferences
- On the
General tab
- Select both
Restore Defaults buttons
- Select the
Network tab
- Select the
Delete Files... button
- Click
OK to delete both the
Applications and Applets and Trace and Log Files
temporary files
- Now you should be able to return to the Web Start application's
web page and launch the application.
