HELP: Time Formats/Units Help

The formats and units screen allows the user to customize the units used for input and the appearance of the output. Following are descriptions of each option:

Date/Time

When time is displayed or requested it consists of the date followed by the time of day (Greenwich). The following options are available for output:

Date

yyyy ddd - four digit year followed by a 3 digit day in the range of 1 to 366.

yy/mm/dd - 2 digit year followed by the 2 digit month (01-12) and the day of the month (1-31).

yy-Mmm-dd yy-MMM-dd - 2 digit year followed by the 3 character month (Jan, Feb,...) and the 2 digit day (01-31). These two options refer to the month displayed with the first letter capitalized (Jan, Feb, ...) or the month displayed in all capital letters (JAN, FEB, ...).

Time

hh.hhhhh - Decimal hours with five (5) decimal places. Five places is sufficient to display with resolution of one (1) second.

hh:mm:ss - Hours, minutes, and seconds separated by colons.

hh:mm - Hours and minutes. The purpose of this option is to save space when seconds are not necessary.

Please note that all of the above are valid for input regardless of the selection. Select HELP for entering time for more details.

Distance

The options for distance affect input and output. For input the units determine the units to be entered when a cartesian coordinate or radius is to be entered. The options are as follows:

EarthRadii (RE) - The units are based upon the radius of the earth or units of 6378.16 km.

Megameters (Mm) - Megameters or 1000 km.

Kilometers (km) - Kilometers with up to 7 digits and a sign before the decimal point.

Integer (km) - Kilometers displayed as an integer. The purpose of this option is to save space by not supplying a decimal place or excessive precision.

Sci Notation (km) - Kilometers displayed in scientific notation. For example, 12020 kilometers would be displayed as 1.2020E+04.

Following these choices is the option of requesting the number of decimal places to be displayed. This option is not used for Integer (km) nor is it used for input. The number of places must be between 1 and 6 inclusive.

Degrees (Latitude and Longitude)

This options for displaying degrees involve units and the sign. For units the following options are available:

-dd.dddd - Decimal degrees. The latitude and longitude are displayed in decimal notation. The number of decimal places must be specified and between 1 and 6 inclusive.

-dd dd'dd" - Degrees, minutes, and seconds. The latitude and longitude are displayed as integers in degrees, followed by minutes and seconds.

-dd dd' - Degrees and minutes. This is identical to degrees, minutes and seconds except seconds are omitted.

Direction/Range

This option allows the user to determin whether to display a signed number for degrees or the direction following the number. Also, the longitude can be displayed in the range of -180 to 180 or 0 to 360. Following is a description of each option:

Lat (-90,+90), Long (0,360) - Latitude is displayed in the range of -90 to 90 and longitude is displayed in the range of 0 to 360. The sign (-) is displayed only for latitudes in the southern hemisphere.

Lat (-90,+90), Long (-180,+180) - Latitude is displayed in the range of -90 to 90 and longitude is displayed in the range of -180 to 180. The sign (-) is displayed only for latitudes in the southern hemisphere and longitudes in the western hemisphere.

Lat (90s,90n), Long (180w,180e) - Latitude and Longitude are displayed followed by the direction (e,w,n,s) instead of being preceded by a sign.
