Prerequisite Software Installation for Linux




Linux mascot tux{height=“96” width=“80” align=“RIGHT”} The following is an outline of the steps involved in installing the prerequisite software for running the SSC 3D Orbit Viewer application on Linux.  The reader should refer to each product’s installation instructions for detailed information about installing the product.

Step 1: Upgrade X11 graphics drivers and OpenGL graphics library if necessary

Java 3D for Linux requires a graphics adapter with a driver that supports the GLX extension (GLX 1.3 or later) and OpenGL 1.2 or later. If your graphics hardware isn’t adequately supported by the latest X11 drivers and OpenGL, then you will not be able to run the SSC 3D Orbit Viewer application.

Step 2: Install the Java^TM^2 Platform, Standard Edition (J2SE)

Install Java J2SE version 1.4.2 or higher ensuring that you have meet the minimum system requirements. Only the JRE is required to support SSC 3D Orbit Viewer. Refer to these instructions for configuring Mozilla and derivative browsers (e.g., Netscape^TM^ 6/7).

When finished installing the prerequisite software, close this window and return to the SSC 3D Orbit Viewer application site to launch the application.
