Prerequisite Software Installation for SunTM  SolarisTM Operating System

The following is an outline of the steps involved in installing the prerequisite software for running the SSC 4D Orbit Viewer application on the Sun Solaris.  In general, no additional software installations are required for Solaris 10 1/06 and later (including OpenSolaris releases) although installing better graphics drivers (e.g., the nVIDIA drivers) may improve performance. The reader should refer to each product's installation instructions for detailed information about installing the product.

Step 1: Install/upgrade graphics drivers and OpenGL® graphics library

OpenGLNote: If your version of Solaris in combination with your graphics hardware is not supported by OpenGL, you will not be able to run the SSC 4D Orbit Viewer.
SPARC Platform:
Note: This step is generally not necessary on Solaris 10 (SPARC) since the software is included with Solaris 10.
Install/upgrade to SunTM OpenGL 1.2.3 or higher and any required patches.
x86/amd64 Platform:
Note: This step is generally not necessary on Solaris 10 1/06 and later since it includes the Mesa 3D OpenGL library and Solaris 10 8/07 and later includes the nVIDIA Accelerated Graphics Drivers.
Install OpenGL.  The following are possible sources of OpenGL for Solaris x86:

Step 2: Install the JavaTM 1.5 or later

Note: This step is not required on Solaris 10 since Solaris 10 includes Java 1.5.0.

Install Java SE version 1.5.0 or higher and any required Solaris patches. Only the JRE is required to support the SSC 4D Orbit Viewer. Refer to these instructions for configuring Mozilla and derivative browsers (e.g., NetscapeTM 6/7).

When finished installing the prerequisite software, close this window and return to the SSC 4D Orbit Viewer application site to launch the application.
