Prerequisite Software Installation for Microsoft® Windows

The following is an outline of the steps involved in manually installing the prerequisite software for running the SSC 3D Orbit Viewer application on Microsoft Windows platforms.  The reader should refer to each product's installation instructions for detailed information about installing the product.

Step 1: Upgrade the graphics driver and OpenGL® graphics libraries

Step 1a: Decide what software to upgrade

Determining what graphics software, if any, to upgrade can be confusing.  Refer to this description of your options and a recommended strategy to decide what, if any, graphics software you need to upgrade.

Step 1b: Upgrade your graphics driver

If you have decided to upgrade your graphics driver software, go to your graphic hardware manufacturer's (e.g., ATI, Matrox, Nvidia) support web site and download and install the latest driver software following the manufacturer's instructions.  Installing the manufacturer's latest driver software will usually also provide you with the best OpenGL library for your particular hardware configuration.  When finished, return here and continue with the next step.

Step 2: Install the JavaTM 2 Platform, Standard Edition (J2SE)

Install Java J2SE version 1.4.0 or higher.  Only the JRE is required to support SSC 3D Orbit Viewer.

When finished installing the prerequisite software, close this window and return to the SSC 3D Orbit Viewer application site to launch the application.
